The narration on the works refers to the changes in cultural and historical identities through the process of modernization in Ethiopia. By the end of the 19th century, while European powers scramble Africa, the Italian invading power tried to expand its colonial empire in the Horn of Africa. However, the Ethiopian forces defeated the invaders in the battle of Adwa(አደዋ). This gives a chance for the Ethiopian empire to freely engage with any western power to protect the country from another war by civilizing the nation and modernizing the country. Accordingly, some Ethiopians were sent to study abroad around the world. They returned with education and skills that are completely alien to the traditional knowledge structure. The artwork discusses the challenges for the coexistence of modern knowledge with the traditional one in the Ethiopian context.
